The 5P approach to classroom expectations allows teachers and students to work to clear, realistic and supportive classroom expectations.

Lesson Planning
At Corryong College, lesson plans are prepared using the College’s approved planning templates and are published on COMPASS the evening prior to each school day. This ensures that teaching and learning are well-organised, consistent, and accessible.
Lesson Structures
At Corryong College, lessons are carefully structured to support consistent routines and make the most of learning time. Each lesson typically includes a clear introduction or engaging “hook,” along with a defined learning intention and success criteria so students understand what they are learning and how to achieve success. Teachers provide explicit instruction, gradually supporting students as they move from guided learning to working independently. Lessons also include opportunities to review learning and assess progress, ensuring that teaching is responsive and aligned with students’ needs as they continue through their learning journey.
Our lessons:
1. Begin with a whole class review and/or hook time (5 –10 minutes)
2. Follows with explicit teaching time (10 to 15 minutes)
3. Provide an extended time for learning activities (40-50 minutes)
4. End with a whole class reflection time (5-10 minutes)
Learning Sequences
At Corryong College, learning is carefully planned through structured learning sequences that may take place within a single lesson or extend across multiple lessons. Each learning sequence is designed to support student understanding and growth through a balance of focused instruction, guided learning, collaborative activities, and independent work. This approach enables a gradual release of responsibility, helping students build confidence and become more independent learners over time.
Roll Marking
At Corryong College, student attendance is recorded using the COMPASS system to ensure accurate and timely communication with families. Teachers mark attendance at the beginning of each class, with all rolls finalised by 9:30 AM each day. This allows the College to promptly notify parents and carers of any unexplained absences via automated messages. Parents and carers can view their child’s attendance information through the COMPASS portal after this time.
